As a recruiter at Amazon and Microsoft, I've screened 5,000+ resumes - fewer than 5% made it. Here are 3 things I look for in a resume in the first 10 seconds. (Most candidates who nailed these got interview calls.) When I open a resume, I scan for 3 things - fast. 1. A sharp headline with role, credibility, and scale “Product Manager” isn’t a headline. But this is: “Product Manager | Ex-Meta | Handled infra for 10M+ MAUs at Google | Python, AWS” Your top section should immediately tell me: → Why you’re worth a call 2. Role-to-resume match Most resumes are 70% noise.? That’s why most candidates lose before they even begin. Use Tools like Jobright.ai AI to take the shortcut? → It finds roles that truly match your background? → Highlights missing keywords & gaps → Tailors the resume to fit? each JD 3.? Impact-first bullets Hiring managers don’t want to know what you did. They want to know what changed because you did it. Vague: Wrote scripts to automate reports” ≠ impact Good: Automated key data analysis and reporting features with engineering and research teams, reducing manual effort and improving analyst efficiency by 20%. Jobright.ai? can help you create impact-driven? bullets in your resume and showcase: - What did you do? - What changed because you did it? - Why does it matter to the business? Most candidates miss out because of these 3 gaps - Jobright.ai? helps you fix all of them before you hit submit.? The resume I attached is optimized by it. P.S. You've summed it up well Shreya. Will definitely check out Jobright AI.
Shreya, With all respect, based on my own experience I have a strong feeling that in >50% of the cases those “impact” metrics in resumes are complete BS for different reasons… Quite simple example: “Optimized existing pipeline that decreased cost by 20%” 1) Who gave you that task? What were the original requirements? Cost reduction could be an acceptance criteria overall… 2) What was done to reduce costs ? I’ve seen many cases where cost savings were achieved by simply turning off some jobs… 3) How do they know that the costs were decreased because of those changes and nothing else ? And I can continue… If I were to hire someone for my team I’d like to know what projects the person worked on and then I can ask detailed questions during an interview. A couple of lines in resume can’t replace a conversation
With due respect, if you are Recruiting only on Resume, you are not Recruiting great talent......Real human are different than on paper resume!!!
Thanks for sharing! I wish every job seeker knows these crucial rules. they could really help them get more feedback.
