The Power of Good Manners: Lessons from Wimbledon and Beyond. I love tennis and Yesterday’s Wimbledon final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz was a masterclass—not just in tennis, but in character. Both athletes played with intensity and skill, but what truly stood out was their mutual respect, humility in victory and defeat, and genuine sportsmanship. Their conduct was a refreshing reminder of why good manners matter, both on and off the court. Contrast this with the scenes from the Chelsea game last night, where poor behaviour overshadowed the sport itself. The difference was stark: where Sinner and Alcaraz uplifted the spirit of competition, others let emotions spill into disrespect and chaos. Good Manners?really??Matter in Business?it Builds Strong Relationships: Respect, consideration, and appreciation foster trust and loyalty among colleagues and clients. it?Creates a Positive Atmosphere: A workplace grounded in good manners is more collaborative, productive, and enjoyable for everyone. it?Reflects Professionalism and Confidence: Politeness, active listening, and empathy project confidence and make a lasting impression. and it? Prevents Misunderstandings: Clear, courteous communication reduces conflict and keeps teams aligned. The Wimbledon final was a perfect teaching moment for children. When young people see top athletes like Sinner and Alcaraz showing grace, even in the heat of competition, they learn that: ? Winning and losing with dignity is more important than the result. ? Respect for opponents, officials, and the game itself is non-negotiable. ? Good manners—on the field, in the classroom, or at work—are the foundation for lifelong success. Let's champion the values we saw on Centre Court: respect, humility, and good manners. These are not just “nice-to-haves” in business or sport—they are essential for building strong teams, resilient leaders, and a better society & healthier planet. And as leaders, parents, and mentors, it’s our responsibility to model and instil these values in the next generation. After all, greatness is measured not just by what you achieve, but by how you treat others along the way.
Couldn’t agree more. I used to recommend school prefects based on what the cleaning staff told me about the pupils’ manners towards them. True indicator of good character and potential for greatness.
Totally 100% love this
????????????
??, and often hard to find in business these days
Lovely comment. Thank you.
Respect has for sometime been missing from humanities vocabulary. Not just in sport.
Escape from Alcaraz, Sinner takes all!
A very good message passed by the players to the world...that would leave an imprint. Good manners the most important element of sportsmanship.... Thank you for sharing...
